If you are unfamiliar with sets, it is a tabbing system that will work across Windows 10. Essentially a universal tab ability for applications. It works like tabs on a web browser, allowing users to open a tab in an application by clicking a + symbol in the title bar. A new tab will show recent apps, documents, and a search. The concept of using Windows 10 Sets is to be able to multi-task more easily without needing to leave an app you are in. Of course, features going through the Windows Insider Program are being tested. It’s normal for Microsoft to decide to work more on a new tool after user feedback. The problem with Sets is the company has already delayed the feature several times. Just this week, we reported Sets was inbound in our guide to Redstone 5. That prediction was grounded considering Microsoft had previously hinted Windows 10 Sets would come to Redstone 5. The company has also been testing through the Insider Program. Unfortunately, Microsoft is nixing the feature yet again. A report from The Verge suggests the company wants more time to arrange the integration. Because Sets works across all Microsoft apps, making the feature functional in all apps is causing more time.

Further Delays

Microsoft removed Sets from its latest Windows Insider preview and head of the division Dona Sarkar explains why: “Some of the things we’re focusing on include improvements to the visual design and continuing to better integrate Office and Microsoft Edge into Sets to enhance workflow.” It is worth noting the company never specifically promised Windows 10 Sets for this update. Still, since the feature has been delayed since before, it’s a shame that it is not coming this year. With Redstone 5 the last update of 2018, we will have to wait until the spring 2019 release at the earliest.
